Respect Ambassadors (Rugrats)

The Berks & Bucks FA are delighted to be supporting the Respect Ambassador programme which aims at providing a number of trained peer mentors (16) aged 14-19 who can go in and work with young players where bullying issues have been identified.

Mentors are being trained through a joint FA/O2 project in conjunction with David Lewis (County Welfare Officer), Deborah Wyatt (Respect Ambassador) and Lisa Barnett (Young Leader and FA Youth Council).

The Berks & Bucks FA identified Young People and trained them in how to mentor young people who have suffered bullying on a one to one basis, usually at the young person's school. The aim is to also produce a drama piece on the effects of bullying that can be offered to schools and Clubs.

The programme is run in partnership with The FA, O2, UK Youth and it is hoped that the programme will be rolled out nationally over the coming year.

The group now has 16 trained peer mentors across the County and the drama group are already delivering sessions within schools and Clubs.

Speaking of the programme David Lewis, County Welfare Officer said “We are delighted to support this programme which encourages young people from both within the game (players, coaches and referee's) and two from outside the game to work closely with leagues , clubs and schools to support the message of The FA’s Respect programme. This allows us an extra tool for working closely with Clubs where problems have been reported.”
